The Scone Redefined

Steeped in tradition, the scone is a Scottish quick bread that was baked on a griddle and made with oats. This time-honored biscuit is said to have taken its name from the Stone of Destiny (a.k.a. Stone of Scone), where Scottish kings were once crowned. Learn more about the Stone of Scone here.

Today, FatCat Scones redefine the genre. Far from the traditional dry biscuit, FatCat Scones are moist, rich and bursting with flavor. Chock full of premium all-natural ingredients, FatCat Scones are scrumptious, easy-to-bake and worth every bite.

The Cats

FatCat Scones was founded in 2002 in Sacramento, Ca, by Erik Finnerty and Anthony Van Rees. Friends since childhood, Erik and Tony are inseparable. Roommates in college at the University of California- Santa Barbara, balancing friends, work and studies (more or less), they created a business delivering gourmet desserts to various high-end restaurants in the resort town of Santa Barbara. After graduation, they took separate paths: Tony entered the renowned California Culinary Academy and became a professional Chef; Erik went into marketing, business and eventually became part of the dotcom boom in Silicon Valley. As their friendship grew, so did their desire to start a family-oriented business. In October of 2001, they came together with a vision and a passion: to bring a new kind of scone to the world. With the creation of FatCat Scones, their vision was realized… they WILL make a scone lover out of you.
